Greek Mythology: an introduction

The ancient Greeks believed that the world is ruled by several Gods who lived atop of the mountain named Olympus. They believed that if they could make the Gods pleased, the Gods will give them good harvest, sound health, pleasant weather and prosperity. And if the Gods were angry, they wouldn’t get a bountiful harvest, sound health and good weather. The Olympians: Zeus, Hera and Athena, were considered as responsible for activities of the universe. The Gods were the children of Titan who had made the universe, the living creatures, the heaven and hell. The main Gods and Goddesses of Greek mythology were Zeus, Hera, Athena, Hercules, Aphrodite, Eros, Hades, Poseidon and many more.

Zeus is the father of all small Gods and rules both Gods and humans over the mountain Olympus. Hera is the wife of Zeus and queen of all Goddess. Hercules, the great hero was the son of Zeus. Aphrodite is the Goddess of love and beauty, Athena is the Goddess of wisdom and weaving, Eros is the God of love and Hades and Poseidon were the two brothers of Zeus.

When people started to learn a lot about the universe, they realized that the God and Goddess were imaginary. But still the myths are very popular all over the world for some fabulous literary works specially done by Homer.  The ancient Greek myths had the most powerful influence on the western civilization through literature, culture and
even naming of the stars!
